Moray Eel Would Be The Inspiration For Xenomorph Extra Jaw?

Hello to all our colleagues of something in common LOL, browsing the depths of the web, when I come across some information saying that the extra jaw of the xenomorph could have been based on the inner jaw of the moray eel. Oh my God, as I never thought of it ? I'm sure this is a novelty for a lot of you.

Even though they are different, both visually and functionally, and also responsible for the design of the "aliens" H R Giger, denying that he was never inspired by these animals to create I still have my doubts about this.

Here's a snippet of what he said to the "NyTimes" site:

“It’s funny, The double teeth came when I did my first drawings. Ridley Scott told me to make it so that it could move. I hadn’t studied any animal. My instructions were that it should be somehow frightening and horrible, and I did my best.”

Was he a liar? or perhaps nature copying science fiction LOL. I separated some interesting information about the two to see if we came to a conclusion.

 

 

BIOLOGICAL ANATOMY OF THE MORAY EEL

In the bodies of the moray eel, the extra jaws known as 'pharyngeal jaws' are housed in the eel's throat. When the main jaws close on an unlucky fish, the second set launches forward into the mouth, snags the prey with terrifying, backward-pointing teeth and drags it back into the throat. In fractions of a second, the prey is bitten twice and swallowed.

BIOLOGICAL ANATOMY OF THE XENOMORPH

In your case, the xenomorph's pharyngeal jaw works similarly. The alien's secondary set of teeth rest on the end of a bony appendage that extends from the mouth and retracts into the throat. The xenomorph can extend this "tongue" with terrific force, easily puncturing the flesh of an adversary. The creature can then pull back the deadly tongue (leaving a gaping wound in its prey), or it can bite down with the small pharyngeal jaws and reel its victim into the primary jaws.

Analyzing the information, we have a jaw that can destroy the skull and the flesh and another one that if you are a poor one of a small fish will be an easy prey. Guys, this is what I found on the internet, see you soon.
